Egypt vs Morocco Predictions

by JohnnyBet from

The fourth and final quarter-final of AFCON 2017 could be a feisty and tempestuous affair as two North African sides do battle: Egypt and Morocco.

What we do know from their historic battles is that the Moroccans tend to get the upper hand. In 26 prior meetings, the Egyptians have won just twice; the last of which came way back in 1986!

It would only be fair to say that Morocco have enjoyed a better time of things in this year’s African Cup of Nations too. Okay, so an opening Group C loss to DR Congo was less than ideal, but they have bounced back well with victories over Togo (3-1) and reigning champions Ivory Coast (1-0).

Egypt, meanwhile, may have topped Group D with seven points but there are stories within the story here. They were held to a goalless draw by Mali, needed an 89th minute to get past Uganda and managed to win 1-0 against a Ghana side shoe presence in the last eight was already confirmed.

With five of their six combined matches witnessing fewer than three goals, can we expect a low-scoring Morocco victory here?

1. Egypt vs Morocco Betting Odds

Once again, the bookmakers are having a hard time trying to work out who will win this match, with Egypt the favourites at 2.45 and Morocco slightly behind at 3.00 with bet365. The draw, consequently, holds appeal at 3.10 also.

What bet365 are confident of is a low-scoring contest: they have Under 2.5 Goals pegged at just 1.40!

2. Where the Money Is - Betting Tips

The key for punters here is unlocking Egypt’s favouritism. Have we missed something so far in their three rather inert performances? In scoring one goal in 180 minutes against the not-so-mega powers of Mali and Uganda, are they confirming that they aren’t quite up to the task as an attacking force – even with the exceptional Mohamad Salah in their side?

They managed just one shot on target against Ghana, and three each against Mali and Uganda. The Moroccans, meanwhile, were arguably the better side in defeat to Congo and kicked on from there: winning 12 corners and taking five shots on target against Togo, before a more disciplined showing against Ivory Coast – where they spent nearly two-thirds of the game without possession, resulted in a victory thanks to the efficiency of their attacking play.

Basically, Morocco appear to be the stronger side of the two, and surely their exceptional head to head record against the Egyptians has to count for something. In such a low scoring contest that could well go to extra time and penalties, backing the Moroccans to win inside 90 minutes is a brave choice. But to see them listed at 2.00 in the Draw No Bet market is stunning value, and simply not to be missed.

And yes, we are predicting a lack of goals and a lack of action – apologies if you are going to be watching the match! For a low-risk bet, get on the Under 2.5 Goal market at 1.50.
