The 2017 BMW Caulfield Cup Day will take place on Saturday 21st October at the Caulfield Racecourse, Melbourne, Australia.
The event is organised by the Melbourne Racing Club and is the The Caulfield Cup Carnival’s flagship event. The race track is steeped in history and racing was first held at the Caulfield Racecourse site back in 1859, well over 100 years ago.
The carnival features three days of top class horse racing culminating in the BMW Caulfield Cup Day, featuring one of the world’s greatest 2400m handicap races. The $3.1 million Group 1 BMW Caulfield Cup, is the world’s richest turf handicap over 2400 metres and attracts a world class global field every year and 2017 will be no different.
1. Caulfield Cup 2017 Odds
The Caulfield Cup has become one of the richest thoroughbred horse races in Australia. The winner of this race not only gets the trophy, prestige and prize money but also a place in the field for the Melbourne Cup.
Interestingly, the favourites have a poor record in the race over recent years and therefore several horses come into contention for the victory. The winner of the Turnbull Stakes is often one to look out for in the Caulfield Cup, so keep an eye on that race which takes place on Sunday the 7th of October at Flemington racecourse.
Last year the winner of the Turnbull Stakes was Hartnell, who is available at 5.00 with Unibet to win the 2017 Caulfield Cup. With last year’s winner Jameka not available to defend her title, Hartnell makes a tempting choice.
The joint favourites at the time of writing are the New Zealand-bred Humidor and Bonneval, who on offer, respectively at 2.50 and 1.90 with William Hill. However, as mentioned above, the favourites do not often perform well at the Caulfield Cup, so keep this in mind when placing your bets on the race.
The 2017 Queen Of The South Stakes winner Amelie's Star is a horse worth considering and she certainly has what it takes to win this race and comes in at the price of 2.50.
2. Horse to Keep an Eye On
Looking away from the four main contenders highlighted above and Big Duke makes for an intriguing bet priced at 11.00. Big Duke was 2nd in the Royal Randwick (2400m) and won Chairmans Hcp (2600m) this season.
Big Duke is a horse worth keeping an eye on in the lead up the 2017 Caulfield Cup and if he performs well his price could easily drop the closer we move to the race.
