Anthony Joshua vs Carlos Takam Betting Tips

With both fighters having worked hard in preparation for their fight, Kubrat Pulev was forced to withdraw from his bout with Anthony Joshua due to a shoulder injury suffered in training.

The fight was due to take place at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales on October 28th and while Pulev can no longer take part in the showpiece occasion, Joshua will still be in action.

Instead of fighting the Bulgarian, the British boxer will now meet Carlos Takam. He is a Cameroonian-French 36-year-old boxer, who was next in line to fight Joshua in the IBF rankings. The rules state Joshua must fight the next man in the rankings, if the number one contender pulls out and Takam is that man.

1. Joshua v Takam Odds

Joshua would have spent much of his time in camp preparing to fight Pulev and much of his training would have been geared around the Bulgarian and his potential strengths and weaknesses. Therefore, the change of fighter does pose a bit of a problem for the defending champion.

However, Takam is shorter than Pulev and does not have the same reach but essentially, he is still smaller than Joshua, as was Pulev, which means he should not cause any drastically different problems for Joshua, which is good news for the British boxer.

Therefore, Joshua remains the huge favourite to win this fight priced at 1.03 with William Hill.

Takam’s last competitive fight was over a year ago and he lost to Joseph Parker in an IBF eliminator on points. He also put up a good fight against Alexander Povetkin in 2014 before being stopped in 10 rounds.

The main question mark surrounds his shape going into the fight, having received the call so late in the day. However, a boxer in his position should know there is a chance he will be asked to fight at short notice and Takam should be fit and ready to go.

Nonetheless, Takam is still the massive outsider for this fight, which is reflected in his odds of 19.00 with NetBet to come away from Cardiff with the victory.

The draw is also on offer at 34.00 and this is the most unlikely of the three outcomes.

2. Anthony Joshua vs Carlos Takam Prediction

There can be little doubt Joshua is the king when it comes to heavyweight boxing now and there is no one out there who could realistically live with him. Takam is a decent boxer but he is not of the required standard to seriously test Joshua in this fight.

Takam has proven he can work well on the back foot and stay in fights but Joshua has the strength to overpower him and finish the fight early. You can bet on Joshua to win the fight inside rounds 4-6 and Joshua to stop the fight in the 4th round.
