Anthony Joshua vs Eric Molina Betting Tips

by JohnnyBet from

Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn is a sensible man. When he saw plans for his most famous charge, Anthony Joshua, to fight Wladimir Klitschko fall through due to an injury suffered by the Ukrainian, he got his thinking cap on. If we could reschedule that fight for the spring – a fight that AJ is likely to win, by the way – then that would leave time for him to have another epic contest in the summer, probably against either David Haye or Deontay Wilder.

Hearn loves making money, and his commercial interests are often attached to any decisions he makes regarding Joshua’s future activities.

With such a barnstorming 2017 planned, why would he want to jeopardise that by having AJ fight a world-class contender this December, to fill the void left by Klitschko? That would be career suicide for himself and his fighter, and so instead the canny operator has drafted in Eric Molina as Joshua’s last fight of the year.

Molina is what the boxing world would recognise as a tune-up man. The fight will put bums on seats – 15,000 will cram into Manchester Arena – and many more will pay through the nose for PPV subscriptions, while allowing Joshua to get a work out and keep him in the hearts and minds of the public. This bout is another example of Hearn’s excellent match-making abilities.

That is… unless Molina spoils the party?

1. Betting Odds

Given Molina’s rather poor record (more on that later), it is perhaps no surprise to see the bookmakers protecting their position.

Punters can back AJ at a paltry 1.02 with bet365 to win this fight, with Molina available at 15.00. As we will discover, there is value to be had elsewhere, so don’t panic!

2. Joshua vs Molina Betting Tips and Predictions

Anyone with even a passing interest of boxing will know about Anthony Joshua, the IBF Heavyweight champion who looks like he has been chiselled from granite. Thus far in his career, his awesome hand speed and concussive power has led to 17 consecutive knockout victories; this is not a man to trade punches with.

But what about Eric Molina? It takes two to tango, and the American will no doubt fancy is chances even if nobody else does. And here’s the thing: he wobbled Deontay Wilder in their fight back in June 2015, even if the WBC champ eventually regrouped to score the victory. The challenger has since beaten Tomasz Adamek, although the Pole is spent after suffering defeats in two of his three prior fights, so we’re not reading too much into that one.

The problem for Molina is his suspect punch resistance. He was knocked out in the first round against Chris Arreola, a talented but small heavyweight, and eventually Wilder broke his spirits to claim a ninth-round stoppage. It appears that when the going gets tough, Molina gets going.

So nothing but a Joshua victory can be predicted here, and there is value in taking Rounds 4-6 at 3.25 with bet365.
