The International 2017 will be the seventh Dota annual flagship event and the third major of the 2017 season.
For the sixth year in succession the championship will be held in Seattle, with the main event in the KeyArena, which has a capacity of over 17,000 people. This year the tournament will see the biggest prize pool in the history of the International.
This will be the first Dota 2 International not see the defending champions attempt to regain their crown as 2016 winners, Wings Gaming, have disbanded. This means we are guaranteed a different champion at the end of the Grand Final, which is due to take place on the 12th August 2017.
1. Favourites to Win Dota 2 The International
The open qualifying for the International 2017 started on the 22nd June 2017, so we know the teams in the group stages, which start on the 2nd August.
The favourites for the tournament at 4.50 with are Evil Geniuses. This American team have been on the Dota 2 scene for many years and have great experience. Although a little inconsistent of late, over the years they have been one of the most feared teams and with good reason. Only two teams finished above them at the International 2016 and neither are participating this year.
Much like Evil Geniuses, Team Liquid are a Dota 2 team who have been around for many years and will expect to reach the latter stages of Dota 2 – The International. They have come first at several non-Valve events like EPICENTER 2017, Starladder, and Dreamleague but this has not always been the case at the major events.
However, they have arguably the greatest player in the world in their team and one of the top veterans making Team Liquid a good bet at 6.00.
One of the most successful teams over the past two years has been Virtus Pro. Their list of honours includes 1st in DOTA Summit 7, 2nd in The Kiev Major 2017, 1st in The Summit 6, and 5-8th in The Boston Major 2016. However, they are yet to win any major Valve event and this is perhaps why they are slightly below the two teams mentioned above in the betting.
Pinnacle offer 4.91 for Virtus Pro to win Dota 2 – The International 2017.
2. Other Bets
An interesting bet at 22.00 to win the International 2017 are Cloud9. This team were not invited to the tournament like those mentioned above but won through the North American qualifying.
They recently replaced two under-performing players with two experienced and talented players in FATA and Pieliedie. This matches their team with anything else in the tournament in terms of talent. They have EternalEnvy as captain and while their talent is not in doubt, it is the strategy and team play which remains questionable.
However, if they get both those aspects right, expect to see Cloud9 challenging for the title and at 22.00 they make a great outside bet.
With a $20 million prize pool and an audience expected to be more than 30 million people, Dota 2 – The International is a massive e-sports event. Don’t just sit there and watch the action unfold, sign up at JohnnyBet and become part of the Tipster Community for this thrilling tournament.
