South Korea vs Germany Betting Tips

by JohnnyBet from

Hat a fantastic opportunity this is for South Korea to take on the reigning world champions in front of a global audience.

Their squad, largely made up of players who play their club football in Korea, will have a chance to strut their stuff against some of the biggest names in the game. As for Germany, this is a banana-skin fixture against a nation that has previous in World Cups having reached the semi-finals in 2002.

The Germans, of course, will be eager to make up for lost time after losing in the semi-finals of Euro 2016 to France. They made amends, of sorts, by winning the Confederations Cup the following summer, but they will be hungry for more World Cup success with a fresher, more vibrant squad of players.

This should be a fantastic contest no matter what the state of play in Group F, and the fans that pack into the Kazan Arena should be treated to a decent encounter on June 27.

But who will take all three points? Read our South Korea vs Germany preview and find out!

South Korea vs Germany previous matches

South Korea is without a doubt the worse team in Group F. They lost both of their matches - 1-0 to Sweden and 2-1 against Mexico. Now, in theory they still have a chance to go into play-offs, but honestly, can anyone see them in there?

Germany are still fighting to go through. After a terrible match against Mexico where they lost 1-0 they managed to win against Sweden after a late goal by Toni Kroos. As one of the favourites of the tournament, they surely will fight for a win against weak South Korea.

1. South Korea vs Germany odds

The bookmakers are in no doubt as to who will win this one, with the Germans as short as 1.25 with some sportsbooks to take the spoils.

The draw is at least given a sporting chance at 6.00, but South Korea have been well and truly written off at a price with betting odds at 13.00.

2. South Korea vs Germany predictions

What are South Korea vs Germany betting tips? It’s not hard to see why the Germans are considered such strong favourites, particularly when you study the amount of quality in depth in their squad.

Manuel Neuer, their captain and legendary goalkeeper, has missed the best part of the season with a foot injury, and yet nobody in Germany is panicking. Why? Because they have Barcelona’s Marc-Andre ter Stegen in reserve. A nice problem to have when you possess two world-class keepers.

That strength in depth goes through the side too. How do you choose your midfield when you can select from Messrs Can, Kroos, Khedira, Ozil, Draxler, Gundogan, Sane and others? As mentioned, it’s a nice problem for Joachim Low to have.

Unfortunately for them, the South Koreans have nothing like the strength in depth nor experience of the world champions. Fans of English football may know Ki Sung-Yueng (Swansea) and Lee Chung-Yong (Crystal Palace), and of course, Tottenham’s Son Heung-Min is fast developing himself into an attacking player of some repute.

But otherwise, it is a collection of players who turn out for club sides in South Korea and Japan, and that does not bode well against a Germany squad stacked with Champions League and big league experience.

These to teams have met twice before in World Cup competition, with Germany prevailing on both occasions: 3-2 in 1994 and 1-0 in 2002. It would be a huge surprise if a similar theme didn’t follow suit here.

From a betting perspective, how can we make money from a 1.25 shot? Well, we have to assume that the Koreans will rotate their squad to give players who haven’t had a chance to experience the World Cup a go.

That plays into Germany's hands, and so we can back the world champions with a -1 goal handicap at a more agreeable 1.80.

Germany and South Korea lock horns in the final round of matches in Group F. Will the Germans win as expected, or will the Koreans spring the mother of all surprises?
