The 2017 British Formula 1 Grand Prix will be the 72nd time the race has been staged. It was first held in 1926 and has enjoyed a long, if somewhat turbulent history.
The race will take place on the 16th July 2017 at the Silverstone Circuit. This will be the 52nd time the Formula 1 British Grand Prix has been held at Silverstone, making it the most popular venue for the showpiece occasion.
Interestingly, the first free practice session ahead of the race will see the use of a new cockpit protection device called the ‘shield’. It is designed to offer the drivers greater protection around the head from flying debris, while still allowing easy access in the event of an accident. Watch out for this in Formula 1 next year.
1. F1 British GP Winner Odds
Having finished fourth in Sunday’s Austrian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton admitted his chances of landing a fourth world title this year have been reduced.
The Englishman starts the British Grand Prix 20 points behind the leader, Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel, who finished second in Austria. However, Hamilton recovered well in the race from a five-place penalty, which saw him start 8th on the grid, giving him some positives on which to build.
In addition, Hamilton has won the last three British Grand Prix’s and will be looking forward to returning to his home circuit. Hamilton is the favourite to win the 2017 British Formula 1 Grand Prix and can be backed at 1.90 with Ladbrokes.
2. British Grand Prix 2017 Betting Tips
While Hamilton was struggling to work his way up from 8th place on the grid in Austria, his team-mate Valtteri Bottas was roaring to victory. It was the Fin’s second win of the season and moves him within 15 points of his fellow Mercedes driver. There is talk that Bottas could make it a three-way race for the Formula 1 crown this season but to do that, he needs to perform well at the British Grand Prix.
Bottas is available at 6.00 to win the 2017 British Formula 1 Grand Prix and makes a good bet.
However, Sebastian Vettel is currently the man to beat at the top of the 2017 Formula 1 rankings. The German knows the pressure is on Hamilton to win races if he wants to overturn the 20-point deficit. Despite failing to win any of the previous three races, Vettel has managed to remain in control but has only won the British Grand Prix once in his career, which was back in 2009.
Vettel is 3.50 with William Hill to win his second British Grand Prix but Bottas remains the better value bet.
So far this season, only two drivers have won a race from pole position and Lewis Hamilton has been the most successful winning three times from first place on the grid. You can get 1.66 with Bet365 for Hamilton to start the race in pole position and if he does, he must be considered favourite to win the race.
