Royal Ascot is one of the most eagerly anticipated events in the sporting calendar and attracts huge crowds, both at the race track and on television. More importantly, it sees thousands of people head to their favourite bookmaker to place a bet and join in the excitement of some of the best horse racing in the world.
Royal Ascot 2017 will take place between Tuesday 20th and Saturday 24th June. With six top class races on each of the five days, spectators will be flocking to Ascot Racecourse to cheer home the runners and riders and hopefully make some money in the process.
Perhaps the race most punters look forward tis the Ascot Gold Cup. The Ascot Gold Cup forms part of what is sometimes referred to as the Stayers Triple Crown, so all eyes will be on the winner of that race, to see if they can progress to claim a rare treble.
So, which horses are the early favourites to do well at Royal Ascot and who are the potential outsiders?
1. Ascot Gold Cup Betting
This race is the showpiece event on day three and one many spectators look forward to all week. This is one of the top-class races on the flat calendar and was won last year by Order of St George, who did well to come strong on the back straight to finish ahead of Mizzou in second and Sheikhzayedroad in third.
Having won last year, Order of St George comes in as 1.83 favourite with bet365 for the Ascot Gold Cup this year. Having won at Leopardstown in May, there is everything to suggest that Order of St George will win this race, if at his best.
Last year’s third place horse, Sheikhzayedroad, is also set to run again in 2017 and can be backed at 12.00 to go two places better and win the 2017 Ascot Gold Cup. However, Sheikhzayedroad is not in the same class as Order of St George and will need to produce something special to win.
Other contenders include Simple Verse available at 11.00 with Bet365. Potential outsiders are difficult to predict for this race and Sheikhzayedroad did well to finish third last year, having started the race at 41.00.
However, one horse which stands out from the crowd is Big Orange, priced at 9.00 with bet365. Stamina may be an issue but he is superb over 2 miles and has tremendous experience from races like the Melbourne Cup and Dubai Gold Cup. The weather will hold the key for Big Orange. If it is wet he will find it tough but if it is dry, he can give Order of St George a run for his money.
In truth, any horse outside of Big Orange is going to find it difficult to challenge Order of St George, who is deservedly the clear favourite for the 2017 Ascot Gold Cup.

2. Other Races
With five full days of horse racing to enjoy, you have plenty of opportunity to get involved in the betting, aside from the Ascot Gold Cup.
You can get 1.80 with Bet365 on Ribchester to win the first race of the meeting, the Queen Anne Stakes but the better bet may be Mutakayyef at 9.00. If the conditions are quick, expect Mutakayyef to excel and based on his form of 2016, he has got a great chance of winning at Royal Ascot this year.
If you are looking for a genuine outsider to back at Royal Ascot 2017 you could worse than Dancing Star in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes. Priced at 21.00 with William Hill, Dancing Star came second to Perfect Pasture by a neck in the Weatherbys Private Bank Leisure Stakes at Windsor in May. Although not a great result for a race at that level, it shows Dancing Star is slowly coming good at the right time and she could challenge Limato (5.00) and Tin Man (8.00) in this race.
