Senegal vs Zimbabwe
2017 Africa Cup of Nations
19 January, 8:00 pm (GMT+1)
Senegal and Zimbabwe find themselves in one of the toughest groups at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations and will be looking to this match as one they need to win, to progress in the competition.
The second matches in groups of four at big tournaments are often the most crucial. Even if a team has lost their first match, winning the second one can see them go on to finish in the top two and reach the quarter-finals.
Senegal qualified for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations by winning their qualifying group comfortably. They won all six of their matches, to enter the tournament with a 100% record and its little wonder to see them installed as one of the favourites to win it, at 5.00 with Bet365.
Zimbabwe also topped their qualifying group but only won three of their matches, in comparison to Senegal’s six. Still, the 11 goals they scored, including a 4-0 over Swaziland and 3-0 win over Malawi were enough to see Zimbabwe through and into what will only be their third Africa Cup on Nations.
1. Bookies Choice
Senegal have a good record of qualifying for the Africa Cup on Nations and their best performance came in reaching the final in 2002, although they lost that game and finished runners-up. They have a lot more experience at top international tournaments than Zimbabwe and with the likes of Sadio Mane, Cheikhou Kouyate, Diafra Sakho and Papa Souare in their squad, they are ranked as being favourites to win this match, at 1.50.
Zimbabwe will be looking to the man who scored many of their goals in qualifying, Khama Billiat, to trouble the Senegal defence. However, they have very little in the way of established names in world football and are the outsiders for this match, at 7.00 with Bet365. The draw is also available at 4.00.
2. Senegal vs Zimbabwe Betting Tips
Senegal have a good mix of defensive and attacking players and they kept things tight at the back during their matches in qualifying, which allowed their attackers to express themselves. If they can get at the Zimbabwe defence, Senegal will back themselves to score a few goals in this game and could even wrap up qualification in the process. Senegal to win to nil might be a good pick.
Sadio Mane has been on great form for Liverpool this season and will be sorely missed by his club. Liverpool’s loss is Senegal’s gain and the former Southampton forward can be backed to get the first goal of the match.
