The Cheltenham Festival is a national hunt racing meet in the United Kingdom. It is possibly the biggest gathering of the best British and Irish trained race horses of the season and always attracts a huge crowd.
The Cheltenham Festival takes place annually in March at the Cheltenham Racecourse and originated back in 1860. Over time the meeting took place at several different venues but since 1911, it has remained on the same course.
The Stayers Hurdle, which was established in 1912, is the oldest race currently run at the Cheltenham Festival and the Gold Cup has become the biggest race at the event, having started in 1924. Other popular races include the Champion Hurdle and Queen Mother Champion Chase.
The 2018 Cheltenham Festival will run from 13th to 16th March with the Cheltenham Gold Cup taking place on Friday 16th March. Can Ruby Walsh extend his record as the most successful jockey at Cheltenham and which horses will come through as potential winners? Read our preview and find out Cheltenham 2018 predictions!
1. Cheltenham Gold Cup 2018
This is the highlight of the 2018 Cheltenham Festival, with the best chasers in the UK and Ireland competing in a race where stamina is just as important as speed.
The winner of the 2017 Cheltenham Gold Cup, Sizing John, won't return in 2018. He had to withdraw from the Gold Cup with a pelvic injury. He topped off a great run of form to win the race in 2017, capitalizing on a mistake by Djakadam and racing beyond Native River, who led for most of the race.
Might Bite has enjoyed a decent start this winter and won the King George. With Thistlecrack ruled out of the race, this has opened the field somewhat and at 7/2 with Bet365, Might Bite comes in as the favourite.
Road to Respect, at 9/1, is a tempting bet. The Irish horse won the Leopardstown Christmas Chase in December, defeating Sizing John and Yorkhill in the process. He will need to show further improvement to defeat Might Bite but that’s not out of the question.
Other names currently in the betting include Native River (4/1), Our Duke (13/2), Minella Rocco (20/1) and Total Recall (16/1).

3. Champion Hurdle Results - Cheltenham Festival
There were no surprises here, bookies favourite - Buveur D'Air won the race. Buveur D’Air came into this race as the defending champion and left with another trophy. Many punters had backed Nicky Henderson’s charge to put in a repeat performance - good for them. Unfortunately, as you can see below there wasn't too much value in betting on Buveur D'Air.
The finish was really tight and despite Melon's best run in his career he slightly lost to Buveur d'Air. But this shows good signs to back Melon in the next year! So remember this when making another year's Cheltenham betting predictions.
