All eyes will be on the final matches of Group A at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, as the hosts, Gabon, battle it out with Cameroon. The former Spain, Real Madrid and Benfica manager Jose Antonio Camacho, has huge experience of coaching at the highest level but even he will be feeling the pressure in this tournament, as the Gabon team aim to carry the hopes of the home fans into the knockout stages of competition.
Gabon qualified for the tournament as hosts but their opponents in this game, Cameroon, were afforded no such luxury and had to come through the qualifying stages to reach the finals.
1. Betting Odds
In the end, qualification was quite comfortable for Cameroon and they have been in good form under manager, Hugo Broos. The four-time African Cup of Nations winners failed to make it out of their group at the 2015 tournament and will be hoping to go one better than that this time around and make the quarter-finals.
The bookmakers are struggling to separate Cameroon and Gabon and the feeling is, this is going to be a very close game. Gabon are available at 2.75 and may have the slight advantage coming into the tournament. Firstly, they have home advantage and this could mean a lot in the crucial moments of the game. Secondly, Cameroon are going to be missing some key players, such as Joel Matip, Allan Nyom and Guy Assembe who have all decided not to take part in the competition. This cannot be good for team morale and with the likes of Alex Song, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, Stéphane Mbia and Sébastien Bassong not being selected, Cameroon have a very inexperienced looking squad.
Therefore, although Cameroon are on offer at 2.62 with Bet365, they may come into this match as the underdog. The draw is also available at 3.10.
2. Cameroon vs Gabon Betting Tips
Cameroon were anything but entertaining during their qualification group and it was their defence which was key to seeing them finish top and qualify for the 2017 African Cup of Nations. However, with Joel Matip, Allan Nyom, Guy Assembe and Sébastien Bassong all missing from the squad, the Cameroon defence will not be at its best and this could be a problem when it comes to dealing with Gabon’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
With Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting not in the squad, Cameroon also have problems in attack, as Vincent Aboubakar is the only man in their squad who has reached double figures in terms of goals for his country. In fact, the closest players to him are Benjamin Moukandjo and Clinton N’Jie, who both have 6 goals from a combined total of 55 games between them.
Therefore, this match could easily end in a win for Gabon, without conceding a goal and you can back Gabon to win the match to nil. For even better odds, the 1-0 win for Gabon might also be a good pick.
