Group B of the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup contains Australia, Cameroon, Germany and Chile. This is a tough looking group and both Australia and Cameroon will have their work cut out to qualify for the semi-finals.
This being the second match in the group, it is the one both teams will be looking to for maximum points. Despite what happens in the first match for these two teams, they both know a win in this one will leave them with a chance to cause an upset and qualify for the next round.
Australia qualified for the 2017 Confederations Cup by defeating South Korea 2-1 in the final of the 2015 AFC Asian Cup final. It was the first time they have won the tournament, having previously finished seventh and second. This will be Australia’s fourth appearance in the tournament.
Cameroon claimed their place at the 2017 Confederations Cup by winning the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations. It was a huge victory for Cameroon, who were not expected to go far in the tournament and Hugo Broos will be hoping to cause a further upset by qualifying from this group and making the semi-finals of the Confederations Cup.
This match will be played at the new Krestovsky Stadium, in Saint Petersburg.
1. Bookies Choice
The bookmakers are having a hard time separating these two teams but given Cameroon’s victory in the recent Africa Cup on Nations and their runners-up spot in their previous appearance at the Confederations Cup, they should come to this match as slight favourites.
Australia have been finding life tough in their current World Cup qualifying group and only New Zealand are considered a weaker team in the 2017 Confederations Cup. Prior to this match, Australia play Brazil in a friendly and then meet the might of Germany in the first game of this group. Neither of those games look particularly kind and Australia’s confidence could be a little low heading into this match. Therefore, they are the slight outsiders for the game.
2. Cameroon vs Australia Betting Tips
One thing you can almost guarantee with Australia is that they will score goals, especially against teams which are weaker than themselves or considered their equal. In fact, Australia have scored at least one goal in their previous 18 matches prior to the World Cup qualifier with Saudi Arabia. You can bet on Australia to score the first goal of the game.
This match is likely to be very close and much could depend on how Cameroon fair against Chile in their opening game. With Australia playing Germany, the likelihood is they are going to need a win from this game to stand any chance of progressing. Cameroon showed themselves as a team capable of defending well and hitting teams on the counter-attack at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations and could do the same to Australia here. Cameroon to win this match 1-0 might be a good pick.
